My name is Scott Stephen Bell and I am one of the happy (some say crazy) teachers here at Da Vinci.  I, along with fellow teacher Mr. Tyler Millsap, have the distinct pleasure of leading a team of Da Vinci students on our annual Close Up trip to Washington D.C.  This is a chance for our students to learn about the workings of the American Government, as well as meet students from across the nation and around the world.

Our district approves of the Close Up program as that it is a non-profit, non-partisan group established by Congress with the goal of giving students the opportunity to understand American government/history, the views of others, and to have their voices heard.

The dates for the trip are 28 March through 03 April (this is the week prior to Spring Break).  This week is chosen as that it allows students to spend Spring Break with family, travelling, resting up, or catching up on their school work.

This is an update for both parents and students.  We have a mandatory Parent Information Night this coming Tuesday 09 March at 6:14,
Room 18.  Please bring your student's medical record/insurance card.  We will be signing important medical documents, permission slips, phone information, et cetera.  Student and Parents should be in attendance. We will be discussing travel and accommodation information.

Further, our travel information is set to be released tomorrow (26 February).  Once Close Up have informed me of the travel information, we
can set a date for our second Parent Information Night.  At the meeting (set sometime in mid march), we will cover paperwork, transportation
issues, and handle any remaining questions you may have concerning the trip.

Feel free to email me at sbell@djusd.k12.ca.us . Thanks very much indeed for your time and efforts, I look forward to seeing you at next week’s meeting.
